SUMMERSTAGE 2008!
Ages
8 - 16
|
Summerstage is designed for children ages 8 to 16. In a well structured,
fun and nurturing environment, young people enjoy workshops, lead by
a professional staff, in Acting, Playwriting, Dance, Singing, and design.
Summerstage culminates with performances of original short plays written
by the Summerstagers and a fully-staged production performed on the
Stageworks Mainstage.
Summerstage, now beginning its 15th year, is a
fun-filled, two-week long summer theater arts camp that offers young
people the opportunity to explore the creative process and challenge
their imaginations. Summerstage operates on the belief that through
the magic and adventure of theater arts, the lessons that young people
learn - discipline, discovery, challenge, living and interacting with
their peers - become guidelines for everyday life.

Stageworks’ Summerstage program exposes
young people to the joy of writing original plays and performing skillfully
on stage. In a fun and exciting environment, our goal is to enhance
students’ interest in theater, and also to offer training in the
wide range of skills that make up the work of the actor. Acting is more
than learning lines and performing. While all of us at Stageworks celebrate
and enjoy "putting on a show," we know how life changing it
can be when young people have ownership or their own creative process.
Summerstage approaches each participant as an active contributor, valuing
and using each individual's ideas. To facilitate this experience, Summerstagers
participate in the following illuminating workshops:
Playwriting Workshops begin with improvisational
exercises that help ignite the imagination. Participants work on play
structure and character development as they create an original short
play.
Dance Workshops begin with body awareness.
Participants work on flexibility, agility and coordination and are introduced
to various styles.
Singing and Speech Workshops strengthen
and challenge all levels of experience and interest. Workshops focus
on vocal technique and interpretation.
Acting Workshops focus on fun and exciting
improvisation exercises that help build a foundation for actors and
explore creativity.
