Mettawee River Theater returns for a free performance!Archy on the Typewriter

On July 14, Stageworks hosts the renowned Mettawee for a free public performance of Communications from a Cockroach - Archy and the Under Side.

Drawn from the Archy and Mehitabel sketches written by noted humorist and poet Don Marquis for his daily column in the New York Sun, Communications follows the illustrious Archy, a cockroach who possesses the reincarnated spirit of a free-verse poet and who finds his means of expression by jumping from key to key on Marquis' typewriter. He shares with us his misadventures as well as those of Mehitabel, an alley cat with the soul of Cleopatra. Archy, Mehitabel and their lowlife acquaintances face the bewildering challenges of the modern world with humor and determination. This rich material provides us with a context for the creation of a wide array of puppet critters operated by actors in full view of the audience - from fleas, tarantulas and crickets, to an ancient Egyptian mummy - a colorful population from the nooks and crannies of early 20th century New York.

Saturday, July 14 at 8:00 pm.

Performed under the stars on the square in front of the Columbia County Courthouse in Hudson, NY on 4th and Union streets. Fun for the whole family and don't forget to bring a picnic dinner!

Reservations not needed. Rain location: St. Mary's Academy Gym, 3rd and Allen streets.

"Performed with laser precision . . . a marvelous mix . . . [Play By Play: Shadows] simply soars." -Schenectady Gazette

"In the midst of a summer season that hasn't really seemed able to let its hair down, The Divine Sister is — mixed metaphors be damned — a breath of fresh air . . . Stageworks is giving it a randy, absolutely irreverent production." -Times Union

"Tennis in Nablus is something you will want to see . . . you won't forget the impact and you will discover a world most of us never knew anything about. For me that is theater." -Berkshire Bright Focus
