PROGRAM NOTE
Due to circumstances beyond our control, the previously announced presentation of "Mind On Trial" by Laurence Luckinbill scheduled for July 18 has been cancelled.

Great things are happening at Stageworks, and if you love theater as I do, you will not want to miss our 2008 line-up of amazing plays.

With the headline news reminding us each day that these are difficult times, we sometimes get lost in the uncertainty of it all. But the wonderful thing about theater is that the louder the alarm, the more we endeavor to enlighten — and Stageworks intends to “play its part.” This season, we bring you productions that celebrate laughter ... be it hard earned or by pure folly!

GUTENBERG! THE MUSICAL! is a riotous concoction of ego and earnestness. Loaded with an unending supply of heartfelt enthusiasm, two aspiring playwrights put on a backers’ audition for their tuneful (but tactless) epic about the not so inspiring inventor of the printing press. They do not have money or stars, but they do have a dream — and that could just be enough.

The explosively funny play, SOUVENIR, breathes new meaning into the word “passion.” Florence Foster Jenkins considers herself the greatest opera diva of her age ... unfortunately, she cannot sing on key! Her real-life story is told through the eyes of her accompanist, Cosme McMoon, who chronicles (in loving, hilarious detail) his gradual admiration of her unmatchable will.

Our American premiere of the stunning new play, FALLING: A WAKE, takes place under an expansive starlit sky where anything can happen. When a loving, wisecracking retired couple come upon a mysterious young man, a transformation takes place that changes their lives forever. It is the kind of experience you will take home with you.

We welcome you to share with us what promises to be a most exhilarating season!

Laura Margolis
Artistic Director
