About Us — Who we are. Were we have been . . .

Stageworks On The Hudson, Inc. is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation and has been producing live Equity theater since 1996.

Mission:

Also known as Stageworks/Hudson, Stageworks is dedicated to bringing adventurous theater productions and programs of high artistic quality to the City of Hudson, Columbia County and the greater Hudson Valley. Central to our mission is Futures, an integrative program designed to move Stageworks to the forefront of new play development. Stageworks is both the experiment and the resource to infuse the whole life of the theater with a creative process that produces new ways of expressing, interpreting and sharing the human experience. Stageworks maintains a series of Principal Programs to encourage and engage traditional theatergoers and new audiences.

A Brief History:

In February 2004, Stageworks acquired a 40,000 square foot warehouse through the kind and extremely generous donation of Richard Katzman and Kaz, Inc. Believed to have originally been a candlestick making facility, then later a fly-paper factory, the original brick building is over 100 years old. When Mr. Katzman's grandfather, Maximillian, bought the building in 1959, it was enlarged to house an international manufacturing plant. In August 2004, only four months after acquiring the old Kaz building, and with the help of Assemblyman Patrick Manning and Hudson Mayor Rick Scalera, Stageworks proudly opened it's doors with its inaugural season in it's new home, a theater named for Mr. Katzman's grandparents, The Max and Lillian Katzman Theater.
